OUR HISTORY

Mom, you are so loved.

The anonymous donor who started this project is a first time mother who, at a day shy of 32 weeks pregnant, tragically lost her own mother (Nana) to a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Nana missed the eagerly awaited birth of her first grandchild. Boxes of Love for Mom seeks to share the love that was left behind after Nana left this world, far too soon.

Motherhood is challenging. Even the most privileged mothers in the United States face hardship. Inadequate (or non-existent) and unpaid parental leave, lack of support for those who choose to breastfeed, isolation, and difficulties finding mental health care are all basic examples of a tiny fraction of the challenges new mothers face. Those challenges are multiplied by several layers of magnitude for underrepresented populations, and come with real health consequences for both mothers and their children. Boxes of Love for Mom seeks to provide new mothers with a tangible reminder that they are truly loved and valued members of society.

An important founding principle for this project is to meet women “where they are”, even if it is for a single moment, to bring support directly to them. Boxes of Love for Mom has begun this work by partnering with a local hospital in Western Massachusetts to distribute these care packages to new mothers just after delivery. Boxes of Love for Mom hopes to reach as many women and their families as possible, and perhaps accomplish a little education, outreach, advocacy, and personal healing along the way.
